024: PTSD and yoga - why the benefit? (including ND risk)
+ kindle version now available for 'Who Brought You Here'
Happy Friday fellow human,
I come bearing a new podcast episode and also news regarding the release of the Kindle version of ‘Who Brought You Here: Why Early Attachment Predicts Future Trauma and How the Body Can Save Us.’
From my end, it says it’s now live; however, when viewing individual stores, it appears to be slowly rolling out. If the Kindle version is of interest to you and it doesn’t appear for your country yet (so far I can see USA, Germany, UK, India), please give it a few hours, and it should pop up.
Regarding this week’s ep, it’s a biggie: PTSD and yoga - why the benefit? (including ND risk)
One day I’d like a sticker or a shirt that says ‘yoga fixes this’ because the power from the practice is second to none, and while those who frequent the mat may be well aware of this, you may not be one of those people, and you may be like me prior to somatic based interventions, and think it’s only for elephant pant wearing types.
The view I held was that these people were attracted to the activity because they were already calm, so it was doing more of the same. Digging deeper, we discover, on a probability basis, it’s the exact opposite. Yoga takes us to these zen stereotypes because of its influence in changing our brain, our nervous system, our gut, our sex hormones, our fear extinction, our our our our… the list goes on.
Also included in this weeks episode is neurodivergent risk, because if you have been diagnosed with ADHD and/or autism like me, we enjoy hundreds of percentage points higher risk of being diagnosed with PTSD due to the baselines we start life with, understanding how we got there (intergenerational transmission of DNA soups) and what we can do to take us up from these stepping off points naturally becomes our rite of passage. We may not have asked for it, but nonetheless, it is our responsibility if we view love as our highest expression.
Anyway, I’ll leave it there for now. Enjoy your weekend, and here’s to your healing 💙,
Jas
