Hello fellow human,
Swinging by with the latest ep of the pod.
Despite 59 minutes and 58 seconds of what influences the development of our vagal brake, the consequences of a poor vagal brake, and how we can improve our vagal brake, all so that we can firmly set our sights on areas where we can reclaim our emotional sovereignty, I regrettably failed to define it. So let’s do that now.
In short, the beat of our heart is naturally much faster than what we experience whilst we are at rest. So, how is it lower during rest? Because the vagus nerve acts upon it to slow it down. This is called the vagal brake, and it is part of the parasympathetic nervous system. The regulation of this brake is known as the vagal tone, and it is used as a proxy for the emotional regulatory capabilities of an individual.
